About Lauren Guymer

Artist Bio

I am an Australian visual artist who lives and works in Melbourne. I create landscape paintings and drawings, specialising in large-scale watercolours that explore my love for the natural world.

The tranquil feeling of being immersed in nature and exploring secluded places are recurring themes in my work. From the plants and trees to the rivers and valleys, I feel an intangible pull to create about them and to deepen my connection to the landscape through paint. Experiencing places in person and making artwork on location is essential to my process.

In recent years, my focus has been on the Australian landscape, taking inspiration from various trips and artist residencies. I’ve also had opportunities to create abroad at residencies in Finland (2018 & 2016) and Iceland (2017). Since graduating with a Bachelor of Design in 2015, I have exhibited widely in group and prize shows and have held five solo exhibitions. My works are in private and public collections, including the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery and the Southern Midlands Collection in Australia. I am also passionate about teaching and running workshops, with experience working with children in education.

“…using watercolours to achieve depth and nuanced light, Lauren’s works are a testament to her finely honed observational skills and technical mastery, characterised by delicate layering and intricate mark-making. The impact of Lauren’s art is tangible, deeply resonating with observers and providing a lush window into the Australian landscape. ”
